A young Worcester football fan is to walk out on to the pitch at Wembley with some of the Country’s top footballers, thanks to the University of Worcester and E.ON.

FA Cup mascotNine-year-old Jack Pinfield has been selected as an official mascot for the FA Cup Final between Portsmouth and Chelsea on Saturday 15th May and was presented with his prize by Mark Saunders, Senior Client Partner at E.ON’s Sustainable Energy business.

He said: “I’m really excited about going to Wembley. I think I’m going to support Portsmouth.”
Jack, a pupil at Redhill CE Primary School in Worcester, was chosen as the mascot by the University of Worcester after the University won a competition, organised by E.ON.

Katy Boom, the University’s Head of Sustainability and Development, said: “We were delighted to have won the prize to have a mascot at the FA Cup and really happy that Jack will have this chance.

“The University is heavily involved in energy saving and works closely with schools on sustainability and litter picks. The University has also begun the process to install combined heat and power on the campus where heat generated as a byproduct is turned into electricity and is looking to use this significant investment to act as a teaching aid to the local community and schools.”

After being selected for the prize to win a mascot place at the FA Cup final, the University then approached Nunnery Wood Colts Football Club, with which it has a long standing partnership.

The Club selected three young players, from a pool of over 250, to be nominated. Staff in the University’s Institute of Sport and Exercise Science then put the three names in a hat and Jack came out as the successful winner.

Mark Saunders of E.ON said, “We’re delighted that Jack has been given this unique opportunity to be part of the Cup Final. The FA Cup has been creating lasting family memories for well over a century and I’m sure he will be passing down stories of this day for generations to come. We hope he has a fantastic time.

“It’s good to see that the University of Worcester are adopting more sustainable solutions and helping to educate the local community in the process.”
