The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) team comprises the Corporate Information Systems, IT Service Support, IT Service Management, Network, and Systems teams.
This role sits within the Corporate Information Systems team who provide services to staff and students across the University sites. This team is responsible for data integration, development and technical application support. The team are currently reviewing the programming language and frameworks used for web development and this role will assist with this transition.
This is a varied and interesting role ranging from web application development and data integration scripts to technical support for the University’s corporate information systems. This will require knowledge of web development languages as well as some knowledge of SQL. The post holder will be responsible for working in collaboration with key departments such as Registry Services, Facilities, Finance and Human Resources in order to develop web applications as well as systems to integrate various information systems critical to the University's business processes.

- Main duties
1 To develop web based applications using scripting languages and frameworks that meet user requirements.
2 To provide support, maintenance and new developments for in-house developed web based applications.
3 To undertake responsibility to create and maintain scripts to manipulate and move data between business critical information systems, such as the Virtual Learning Environment, Sport Management System, student record systems, timetabling, LMS and others.
4 To be involved in all aspects of technical development and administration of key ICT supported information systems working as a member of the Corporate Information Systems team.
5 To work with members of staff across the University to ensure systems meet requirements.
6 To complete documentation to a high level of accuracy for users, technical support staff and for compliance with IT Governance Standards.
7 To investigate, evaluate and implement new technologies to further advance ICT services for both students and staff.
8 To occasionally work weekends, evenings and early mornings in order to carry out installations, maintenance and other systems related duties and provide out of hours support for key events.
9 To assist more generally in providing support to student and staff users in respect of their problems and queries in using University systems supported by the ICT team.
10 To carry out any other appropriate duties as specified by the Corporate Information Systems Manager.

1. Higher qualification (eg MSc, BSc, HND) in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience that demonstrates a high level of technical understanding and ability.
2. Knowledge of a programming language (PHP, Perl or others) for web application development.
3. Knowledge of relational database principles and SQL.
4. Knowledge of XML, HTML and CSS.
5 An understanding of working within Linux and Windows environments.
