Senior Library Services Advisor - Inter Library Requests

This is a demanding but exciting role based at The Hive, a joint venture between Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester and the UK’s first joint public and academic library facility

The post sits within the Acquisitions and Reading Resources Team, which is part of Library Services, and reports to the Acquisitions and Reading Resources Team Manager. Library Services aim to provide excellent library services, facilities, resources, training and advice to all members of the University on and off campus, as well as members of the community who use The Hive. The Acquisitions and Reading Resources Team oversees the purchase of, and ensures access to, all reading resources for students and staff, through management of resource (reading) lists and the Inter Library Request and Digitisation services.

The primary focus of the role will be:

 • To work alongside a job-share partner ensuring that Inter Library Requests are responded to as quickly as possible and to ensure that the service is developed in-line with national developments.

 • To provide additional support for Reading Resources, primarily involving the sourcing of accessible formats for students with additional needs and working with Talis Aspire

 Resource Lists.

 The post will suit an organised, confident individual who enjoys challenges and has a real interest in providing excellent customer service in the context of a back of house role. They will need to be able to take change in their stride, as we continue to adapt to multi-site working within a radical new service model and adopt new technologies and processes.

The post holder will recognise the importance of the Inter Library Request Service within Library Services and the wider University environment.

Familiarity with academic or scholarly works and the bibliographical data relating to citations for books, journals and other academic materials would be advantageous.

Training in all in-house systems and procedures will be provided.

The post holder should be aware that the role will involve some physical elements such as handling books.

Main duties

Main duties

1.Working with a job-share partner to ensure Inter Library Requests from university and public library members are responded to and handled according to service standards.

2. Bibliographical checking (in-house) and ordering of Inter Library Requests using the services of the British Library and a range of other suppliers.

3. Dealing with replies, re-applies, chasers, renewals, processing and returning of loans.

4. Supplying items to other libraries.

5. Answering enquiries from and liaising with students, and academic and library colleagues.

6. Developing the scope and efficiency of the service through developments in online delivery.

7. Maintaining and updating Inter Library Request webpages.

8. Maintenance of borrower records and expenditure.

9. Advising team leader on expenditure and providing other reporting data as required, including the creation, organisation and updating of data on spreadsheets and database applications.

10. Providing support for Reading Resources as required, including sourcing accessible formats for students with additional needs and work with Talis Aspire Resource Lists.

11. Providing in-person and email second-line informational enquiry support to all users of the Hive via the askalibrarian service.

12. Any other appropriate duties as specified by the Line Manager.

1. Organised and comfortable working within a set of procedures in a systematic fashion and according to set deadlines.

2. Comfortable working alongside job-share partner to discuss, organise and prioritise day-to-day tasks.

3. Comfortable working on own and able to take own initiative to resolve higher-level enquiries, showing good judgment as to when to refer on queries or seek advice.

4. Excellent communications skills – must be able to speak to a wide range of people, including students, academics and other libraries, with courtesy and tact, in person, via email and on the telephone.

5. Able to work flexibly, adapt and react positively to changes and challenges, as well as contribute to reviewing and improving systems and workflows.

6. Able to work well as part of a team, for instance, contributing ideas, sharing work and providing cover for other team members when required.

7. IT literate, with a familiarity with Microsoft windows based applications, including spreadsheets and database applications and a willingness to engage with new online systems.
