The University is seeking to increase its pool of sessional lecturers from a professional theatre and performance background to contribute to teaching (on both a regular and an occasional basis)
Contribute to teaching (on both a regular and an occasional basis) across a range of modules and productions on the BA Drama & Performance course and the Touring Theatre MTheatre course.
We are particularly looking for candidates with skills in the following areas:
• Physical Theatre
• Playwriting/writing for performance
• Socially engaged theatre or performance practice
• Design for theatre (set/props/costumes)
• Theatre Administration (funding applications, tour booking, producing etc).
Please state in your application which area(s) you would be able to contribute to.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to give a 10 minute presentation outlining an introductory workshop/session for second year students on your area of expertise e.g. devising, physical theatre, socially engaged performance, playwriting, theatre design/making or theatre administration/producing. ?This will be followed by 5 minutes of questions related to the presentation, followed by a 30 minute interview.
NB. If you are successful at interview you will be invited to join a pool of sessional lecturers and we will contact you if suitable work becomes available. We are not able to guarantee employment as it will be subject to student numbers. The number of hours available might only be occasional sessions or a few hours per week. - Main duties
1. To prepare for teaching by developing an understanding of the content, learning outcomes and modes of delivery for the relevant sessions. This may involve research and reading in the subject area, and/or adapting existing materials and methods.
2. To prepare course materials, including setting assignments, producing reading lists, course outlines and handouts as appropriate, and ensuring that information is available to students in advance of the course and taught sessions.
3. To teach the sessions by workshops, tutorials, seminars and any other relevant form of learning method.
4. To be available for tutorial support to students at specified times.
5. To undertake marking, and other forms of assessment; ensure work is second marked and grades submitted.
6. To ensure regular contact with relevant Course Leader and to keep them informed of progress through the course.
7. To undertake other administrative duties related to the teaching.

1. A degree in a relevant subject and significant relevant professional experience in theatre/performance.
2. Experience of planning and delivering taught or participatory sessions.
3. A commitment to interactive teaching methods with a learner centred focus.
4. The ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing).
5. The ability to work well in a team context when required.
6. ICT competence for teaching purposes and associated course administration.
1. Experience of teaching and assessment within Higher Education .
2. Experience of organising a programme of work (participatory or educational).
