Sessional Lecturers for Post Graduate Health Related Courses

We are looking for expert teaching staff for our growing programme of healthcare development programmes, which includes the Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice and MSc Physician Associate and the Masters in Health Professions Education programme.

The successful candidate will join a team of enthusiastic, committed and friendly staff within the Allied Health and Social Sciences Academic Unit of the Institute of Health and Society and will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Institute and wider University. Successful applicants will be placed on a register of sessional teachers and will be notified when suitable teaching vacancies arise. 

The academic unit offers a wide range of continuing professional development opportunities from study days to BSc and Master’s degrees, which include the BSc (Hons) Health Sciences, MSc Advancing Practice, MSc Public Health, Masters in Health Professions Education, BA and MA Social work, Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Nutritional Therapy, Physician Associate, Paramedic Science, Foundation degrees and BA Youth and Community.

If you are successful at interview you will invited to join a pool of sessional lecturers and the institute will contact you if suitable work becomes available (your contact details will be shared with them for this purpose). We are not able to guarantee employment as it will be subject to student numbers. The number of hours available may be limited and may be offered at short notice. *if only an element of this work is offered which doesn’t involve additional preparation and administration a standard hourly rate will apply, currently £16.87 plus £3.71 holiday pay. 

Selection methods:
Candidates invited to interview will be asked to “Deliver a 15 minute teaching session on one specific aspect of Advanced Clinical Practice, Health Professions Education or the Physician Associate role.” 

This session should be prepared as if being delivered to postgraduate students. This will be followed by 5 minutes of questions relating to the teaching session and an interview of approximately 30 minutes duration.

The Institute 

The Institute of Health and Society is one of six academic departments at the University of Worcester, based on the Henwick Grove Campus. It has a growing course and research portfolio and is increasing its student numbers year on year. It works collaboratively with the other departments of the University, in particular with the Institute of Education and the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science, as well as external partners. There are strong international links and world-wide opportunities for student and staff exchanges.

Main duties

1. To facilitate the educational experience of learners at Post Graduate level on the Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice and/or Masters Physician Associate/Masters in Health Professions Education or other programmes by agreement and as appropriate. 

2. To in accordance with quality assurance procedures contribute to the assessment process for students that could include the marking and moderation of student work, including dissertations, as part of a module team. 

3. To support the development and delivery of innovative and inspiring learning materials and assessment, including written and practical examinations. 

4. To undertake scholarly activity concerning medical, nursing and allied health education, higher education and clinical research. 

5. To contribute to the support of student learning and module activities. 

6. Any other appropriate duties as directed by module leads or the course director. 

*Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training. 

*Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety and well being and that of other staff and students.

Please provide evidence of how you meet each of the essential criteria.

Essential Criteria: 

1. Recent experience and clinical expertise either in Advanced Clinical Practice, as a Physician Associate or as a Doctor to include the skills of health assessment, prescribing, health professions education and leadership. 

2. Educated to Master’s Degree level in Advanced Clinical Practice or as a Physician Associate or in an appropriate subject, such as allied health, biological/biomedical science, pharmacology, pharmacy or equivalent professional qualification (such as FRCS/MRCP/MRCOG/MRCGP). 

3. If clinically qualified, then registration with the appropriate regulatory body. 

4. Experience of teaching clinical students, either in higher education or in a clinical setting. 

5. Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate confidently and clearly with a range of people including students, tutors, managers, representatives of external organisations and the public, both orally and in writing. 

6. Teaching qualification such as PG Cert in Health Professions Education or Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (for the Masters in Health Professions Education). 

7. The ability to work effectively within a team. 

8. Evidence of on-going CPD. 

Desirable Criteria: 

1. PhD or other doctoral qualification. 

2. Non-Medical Prescribing qualification/Independent Prescriber. 

3. A teaching qualification (e.g. PG Cert or Master of medical education or higher education).

4.Evidence of scholarly activity consistent with career stage.
