Art and Design BA (Hons)

Art and Design BA (Hons)This course will develop your knowledge and skills with the aim of enhancing your creativity. You will explore a range of practical approaches to art and design whilst learning about the history
and culture of art.

In the first year you have the opportunity to study across a wide range of modules within the subject. In the second and third years you can choose to follow more specialist routes in either Art (Fine Art Practice) or Design (Graphic Design & Multimedia), or you can pursue broad-based single honours study.

This practice-led programme encourages you to make links across different subject areas and you can choose to do a joint degree with Illustration or Animation for example.

Throughout your studies our supportive environment will help you develop skills that are both subject-specific and transferable to a range of career options. There are many opportunities to work alongside professional artists who regularly visit the University as well as to access two artists in residence and a programme of A2AA artists.

There are opportunities to carry out work placements and to exhibit work both at the University and at external venues. There is also a final year Degree Show.

Students at Work

This is a selection of images taken of first year students making studies as part of their drawing module. This project was undertaken in conjunction with the Worcestershire Archaeology Unit who are based on the University of Worcester campus. It involved using recently recovered archaeological artefacts as a starting point for drawings and culminated in an exhibition at the Unit.

“Art has always been a hobby of mine, and I didn’t want to do something narrow like Fine Art or Graphic Design & Multimedia. Art and Design covers a range of theory and gives me lots of different job options. Almost too many, in fact! I’ve got several things to explore before choosing a career- illustration, visual arts, teaching, advertising, animation, film-making. Hopefully my work placement in the third year will help me think about the future and build up some connections. After all, it’s better to have too many options than too few- that’s why I chose this course!”
