Exemptions and other recognitions

CIPR: Chartered Institute of Public Relations recognition confirms that course content has been assessed to provide relevant skills and knowledge development towards a career in public relations or communications.

CIPD: Approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) as an intermediate qualification and as a programme that has been assessed against the professional requirements of the HR profession. Successful completion of the programme will enables you to become an Associate Member of CIPD

Sage: The University of Worcester works in partnership with Sage and CIMA to award students a CIMA Accredited Sage Certificate. Available on undergraduate awards where students select Business Accounting Systems as an option module.

Optional placement year

You can choose to take a placement year and convert your degree to a 4-year sandwich degree with virtually all of our full-time Single Honours degrees in Business or Computing by taking a year in industry between your second and final years.

You will be able to apply to spend your placement year at an organisation of your choice, anywhere in the UK. Placement opportunities are available in all business sectors, including marketing, advertising, PR, HR, business management, finance, economics, programming and game design.

Teaching and Assessment

How will you be taught?

You will learn how to:

Explore the real-life application of learning via tutors with business experience, via work placement, and via contact with local, national and international businesses – in the past these have included Shell, Barclays Bank and the BBC.

There will be opportunities to take part in projects for clients, visits to businesses, live and computerised simulations, case studies and exhibitions alongside the usual lectures, workshops and seminars. You will develop a range of skills, which you can evidence on your CV and talk about at job interviews

Teaching approach

Worcester is a place where you will be supported to reach your full potential as a self-directed learner ready to make an immediate impact in the world of work. Tutors are friendly, approachable and accessible and virtual resources enable you to work flexibly to suit your own learning preferences and busy lifestyle.

You will progressively build your knowledge and expertise across levels of study through modules which are delivered in different ways, perhaps through traditional lectures and seminars as well as e-lectures, workshops and simulations. In a typical week, you will have 12 hours of scheduled contact time, which you will supplement with one-to-one tutorial meetings and around 20 hours of guided independent study.

Assessment

There are a variety of assessment types – reports, presentations, projects, examinations – and sometimes you will even be able to choose an assessment style to suit you.

  • Dr Catharine Ross

    Dr Catharine Ross

    Catharine teaches subjects related to people management and ethics in the Business School. Catharine has a particular interest in teaching and research concerning diversity in the workplace. She is currently involved in research on trade unions; men in female-dominated occupations; and management learning.

  • Dr Paulo Mora-Avila

    Paulo has an extensive international experience in the fields of Marketing, Advertising and PR, performing roles both in academic and practical levels.

    He holds an MBA from Royal Holloway University of London and a PhD in Marketing, Social Media and Consumer Behaviour with a focus on branding from the University of Birmingham.

    Paulo’s teaching experience include Lecturer in Marketing at Birkbeck University of London, Lecturer in Marketing Strategy at Hult Business School and Assistant to Lecturers in Marketing Management at Birmingham University. His teaching and research areas of interest include, consumer behaviour, brands, social media, digital marketing, corporate reputation, and cross-cultural and cross-generational marketing.

  • Dr Lynn Nichol

    Dr Lynn Nichol

    Lynn is Head of Leadership, Management and HR Subject Group, a Principal Lecturer in HR and course leader for the Doctorate in Business Administration at Worcester Business School. She is a Chartered Fellow of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academic. She has supervised two PhDs, one DBA and one MRes to completion.

  • Dr Rebecca Jones

    Dr Rebecca Jones

    Rebecca is an active researcher investigating the impact of workplace coaching. She is a certified coach and is actively engaged in providing coaching to professionals in industry.

    Rebecca has experience of teaching on a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses and her particular teaching and research expertise lie in personality, training, coaching, performance management, feedback and leadership development.

  • Dr Holly Andrews

    Dr Holly Andrews

    Holly Andrews has been a lecturer with Worcester Business School since 2009. As the employability champion for the business school, Holly runs the work placements scheme and manages the core undergraduate personal development modules.

  • Sa'ad Ali

    Dr Sa'ad Ali

    Sa’ad is a lecturer in Human Resource Management with research interests in the field of HR in the Arab Middle East. Sa’ad has held a variety of academic and HR roles in both Jordan and the UK.  His research explores the impact of social networks on employee selection practices of banks operating in Jordan.

How much will it cost?

Full-time tuition fees

UK and EU students

The standard tuition fee for full-time UK and EU students registering in 2017 will be £9,250.

The standard tuition fee for full-time international (non-EU) students registering in 2017 will be £11,700 per year.

Part-time tuition fees

UK and EU students

The standard tuition fees for part-time UK and EU students registering on this course in 2017 will be £1,156 per 15-credit module, £1,542 per 20 credit module and £2,313 per 30-credit module.

Additional costs

Every course has day-to-day costs for basic books, stationery, printing and photocopying.  The amounts vary between courses.

If you decide to take up the optional placement year accommodation and travel costs may be incurred dependent on location of placement. As placements are paid by the employer at minimum wage plus these costs can be covered by the student’s wage. During this year you will pay 10% of normal academic fees to the University. You are provided with a placement tutor, and have access to the advice of the full placement team, as well as all University student support and services.

There are also occasional trips which may require you to incur travel costs.

Accommodation

Finding the right accommodation is paramount to your university experience, and our welcoming student communities are great places to live and study.

We have over 1,000 rooms across our halls, 358 of which were new in 2009. We offer halls of residence to suit every budget and need, from our 'Traditional Hall' at £94 per week to the £153 per week 'En-suite Extra'.
