This unique course enables current practitioners to develop their conceptual and theoretical understanding of Basketball Coaching Science.
The delivery of the course will focus upon an innovative approach that will involve teaching in both Worcester and Lithuania and will take two years to complete. Lectures and seminars will strategically take place at mid and end of the playing season, whilst online classes and tutorials will be available throughout the year.
This course provides students with a unique opportunity to combine studies with elite sports activities, and enables current practitioners to develop their conceptual and theoretical understanding in the field of Basketball Coaching Science. It will be of interest to coaches, senior players, coach educators and students throughout Europe who have an interest in developing the game and players.
Practical skills in a range of scientific disciplines will be further developed in order to enhance the coaching process, and you will be able to critically reflect upon contemporary principles and practices in basketball coaching. The course offers an exchange of methods of basketball practice that exists throughout Europe and provides students with fundamental theoretical knowledge and research skills.
A range of learning styles and activities will be employed, focussing on student engagement and the development of independent learning. These include:
Small group discussions
Learning will be structured around small group seminars led by tutors who will introduce a wealth of advanced and applied material. Sessions will encourage you to participate fully and to share your knowledge and experiences. Students will be encouraged to develop critical, reflective and analytical skills in an environment of open debate and discussion.

When we receive your application form, your details will be passed to the Masters Programme Leader who will contact you to arrange an informal interview. You may include additional material, such as references, in support of your application or bring them with you to interview.
You can apply for postgraduate taught courses and PG Certs at any time, but preferably as early as possible before the start of the academic year, which begins in September.
Students will normally have a good first degree in a coaching related degree. Students who hold a lower coaching-related degree classification, or a non-coaching related degree will be considered on a case by case basis and may be required to submit a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate coaching experience.
A critical understanding of the game and coaching process is a basic requirement of admission.
Candidates with an acceptable academic background and/or extensive experience in the game of basketball may apply for Accreditation of prior learning (APL) and experience (APEL). It is advisable for candidates to discuss this with the Course Leader initially.

The Programme offers a full range of intermediate awards:
Postgraduate Certificate in Sport (60 M level credit points; 30ECTS)
Students must successfully complete a minimum of three modules each of 20 M level credit points with at least one pathway specific module.
Postgraduate Diploma in Sport (120 M level credit points; 60ECTS)
Students must successfully complete a minimum of six modules each of 20 M level credit points with at least one pathway specific module.
Master of Science in ‘named pathway’ (180 M level credit points; 90ECTS)
Students must successfully complete six taught modules each of 20 M level credit points, and the Advanced Independent Study (60 M Level credit; 30ECTS) encompassing 15,000 word Advanced Independent Study

A wide variety of assessment methods are used including: written assignments, data handling assignments, case study, oral presentation and defence, integrative curriculum project, portfolio, business plan, group presentation and Advanced Independent Study.
