Introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (LANG1001)

This is a TEFL 'taster' module for undergraduate students in their first or second year of study. The module deals with the basic theory of EFL teaching, enabling you to make an informed choice as to whether this could be a suitable career for you.

Module content

Outline and assessment

This module introduces you to three broad areas of study

  • The global context of the English language and TEFL
  • Awareness of the key features of language
  • Underlying concepts and principles of language teaching methodology

The module offers a broad overview of both theoretical and practical perspectives in TEFL. It sets the foundation for further and deeper exploration of TEFL by introducing you to key concepts and theories informing TEFL as an academic subject of study.

To successfully complete this module, you need to submit a satisfactory reflective journal (40%) and two course work assignments (60%).
