Why study in the Digital Arts Centre?

Why study in the Digital Arts Centre?

“It has been an amazing experience. I’ve learnt a lot.  I liked the fact that the University is quite small because I feel that I have grown a close bond with all my lecturers.  Rather than being in a large university, where you are just a number to them, here at Worcester I found that the lecturers have always made time to see me when I have needed help.  It’s almost like everyone on my course is like one big family because we all get on so well.  I will be sad to leave Worcester but, as it’s near my home town, I feel like I won’t be going far.  I will make sure I stay in touch with all my lecturers.”

Whatever your choice of modules, you will be exploring the articulation of your ideas in the exciting possibilities of the digital domain. It is through digital media that most  concepts are now communicated in a rapidly developing world. This world is a global society that is increasingly demanding originality over technology.

In the 21st century, it is ideas, not the technology that communicates them, that are the primary currency in both the commercial and the creative arenas. The main dynamics are now creative thought and professional knowledge, served by ever more sophisticated means of digital realization. Throughout your course, we will support your exploration in originality and invention. These attributes will be judged over and above your technical expertise.

Perhaps you want to be an animator, or a video producer, or a graphic designer in print and multimedia. Our courses within the Centre have been designed to cater for your needs. If you wish to specialize in a particular skill, you can follow this route. Conversely, you can keep your professional options wide-ranging through the wide variety of specialisms that our modules offer. Increasingly, industry demands creative practitioners who are expert in a range of fields and we will prepare you for this requirement.

The staff – all specialists in their respective fields – will do their best to help you on what will be an inspirational and rewarding journey. This support will be supplemented by encouragement of group work and cooperation with your fellow students, so you will
always feel part of a community working towards a common aspiration. By interacting with your colleagues, you will encounter new concepts and opinions that can enrich your own ideas and offer you new opportunities for exploration.

October 2003 marked our move to the University’s new Digital Arts Centre, purpose-built to professional specifications. Do have a look at the link to the new facilities and resources. They are something of which we are proud.
