Advanced health and social needs assessment skills need to be seen within the context of advanced clinical practice, as health and care practitioners will demonstrate capabilities in different ways, depending upon the nature of their role, scope and context of professional practice. However, working in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of assessment methods is a core capability of advanced clinical practice (ACP). The module therefore prepares individuals working in an advanced role with infants, children or adults, to develop clinical practice capabilities relevant to their role, sector and speciality.
This module is part of the University’s MSc Advanced Clinical Practice/ Advanced Clinical Practice Degree Apprenticeship . You will study alongside other students on these courses. The module is also part of the Professional Development MA/MSc course - a flexible course that you help design to take your career to the next level.

You'll need to be a professionally registered midwife, nurse or allied health professional with at least a year's post-registration experience, DBS certificate clearance and be working in a relevant role with access to a Clinical Supervisor in order to study this module.
We offer opportunities for you to develop and demonstrate competence and capability at an advanced level; through supervision and support in the workplace and assessment of your competence and capability in health and social needs assessment.
The Multi-professional Framework (NHSE 2017; p. 16) recognises that each profession will begin from a different starting point in their development of advanced level skills and states that employers are encouraged to support practitioners to develop personal learning plans to identify their developmental needs. Some of these needs will have been considered when applying for the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice however, the remainder will be discussed at the beginning of the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice to identify an individualised learning plan (ILP). This will be undertaken with the student in association with their Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), employer (manager) and Clinical Supervisor. Every student will be expected to keep an E-portfolio throughout the whole MSc demonstrating ongoing achievement of the four pillars and capabilities in relation to their ILP, this must be completed before the end of the MSc and signed off by the PAT.
It is expected that all advertised modules will run, but there may be situations where there are insufficient students to make a particular module viable.
