Overview

On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a systematic critical understanding of academic knowledge and professional practice relating to a range of personnel selection and assessment methods in organisations.
  2. Demonstrate a critical comprehensive understanding of the concepts of validity and reliability to ensure fairness and ethics in assessment and selection and the statistical methods available to evaluate these.
  3. Evidence a critical understanding and application of appropriate psychometric tests in the context of personnel selection and assessment including personality profiling.
  4. Apply a self-directed approach to identifying needs, analysing needs, and formulating solutions and evaluation strategies within the context of personnel selection and assessment systems such as the choice and design of selection tools.

It is expected that all advertised modules will run, but there may be situations where there are insufficient students to make a particular module viable.

Module delivery

The University places emphasis on enabling students to develop the independent learning capabilities that will equip you for lifelong learning and future employment, as well as academic achievement.

A mixture of independent study, teaching and academic support through the personal academic tutoring system enables you to reflect on progress and build up a profile of skills, achievements and experiences that will enable you to flourish and be successful.

You will be taught through a combination of on-campus lectures and self-directed study tasks. All lectures are held on a Friday and Saturday. The days involve engaging with different learning activities, such as lectures, practical tasks (individual and/or group), discussion and reflection.

Entry Requirements

This module is open to students with a 2:2 Honours degree in a Psychology (non-BPS accredited) degree or a related subject (e.g. Business Management, Human Resource Management). Applications from those with a nonrelated subject will also be considered.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPEL) is considered for prospective students who do not hold a first degree but have gained extensive experience and skills which are transferable. All applications are considered individually on a case-by-case basis. This course can aid career change for those seeking a new direction.

Professional experience within Business Psychology is not a requirement for entry to this course.
