Overview

The module introduces students to what strategy is, explores the context of business and decision-making practices of organisations whose activities are embedded in, and constrained by, the intense global environment. It examines the process of strategy development to evaluate and recommend ways for organisations to maintain their competitive advantages.

With a focus on real business cases, the module will provide a real world understanding of contemporary strategic issues. Strategy provides the direction for any organisation; hence, it is essential for future business leaders to develop a good understanding of its principles and its paramount importance for business success.

The module is taught via weekly, 2-hour sessions. Please contact wbs@worc.ac.uk to confirm times and dates for the next delivery of this module.

It is expected that all advertised modules will run, but there may be situations where there are insufficient students to make a particular module viable.

This module will enable students to develop and enhance vital skills which are highly sought after by employers such as: problem solving, critical thinking, analytical skills, team working and commercial awareness.


Module delivery

Typical sessions will contain a mixture of presentation of concepts and techniques alongside group practical exercises and case study analysis, so that students experience a good balance of activities.

Teaching will draw upon the diversity of the class to broaden and deepen perspectives.

Students will be encouraged to consider and discuss real-world situations. Preparatory reading and review of learning material, and journals will further support the learning on this module.

Students will use the university VLE for access to materials and will engage extensively with online contemporary texts and articles.

This module is assessed by:

  • 2-hour exam


Entry Requirements

Admission to this modules typically requires:

  • A second class honours degree in any subject (or International students holding a qualification recognised as equivalent by the University).

Students whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate proficiency to a minimum level of 6.5 IELTS (and minimum of 5.5 in each element) or equivalent
