Overview

This module examines the increasingly complex global challenge of resourcing the right employees in order to create sustainable competitive advantage within an organisation.

Within competitive, international employment markets this task is much more than writing job advertisements, interviewing candidates and making a job offer.

Creating an effective global brand as an employer, designing reliable and valid recruitment processes that take account of cultural differences and developing talent management strategies able to fulfil the future needs of a global organisation are all addressed within this module.

The module is taught via weekly, 2-hour sessions. Please contact wbs@worc.ac.uk to confirm times and dates for the next delivery of this module.

It is expected that all advertised modules will run, but there may be situations where there are insufficient students to make a particular module viable.

This module will enable students to develop and enhance vital skills which are highly sought after by employers such as: research skills, problem solving and critical thinking and analytical skills.


Module delivery

The purpose of the module is to develop learners to be confident in researching international HR issues. Therefore, the module adopts pedagogic approaches that require individual interaction with a range of contemporary research driven material to develop knowledge, personal reflection and critical thinking.

Learning in traditional and block teaching modes will use a combination of lectures, practical activities, reviews of current literature and individual sessions to help in developing a research proposal.

Students will use the university VLE for access to materials and will engage extensively with online contemporary texts and articles.

Assessment methods

This module is assessed by:

  • 20-minutes group presentation
  • 1,500-word written report


Entry Requirements

Admission to this modules typically requires:

  • A second class honours degree in any subject (or International students holding a qualification recognised as equivalent by the University).

Students whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate proficiency to a minimum level of 6.5 IELTS (and minimum of 5.5 in each element) or equivalent
