For the majority of his career, David has worked in mental health services. He is enthusiastic about promoting social approaches for supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties. Before joining the University, David had a long career as a social worker and in recent years he has been a Lead Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP). He has also worked on a range of projects to develop crisis mental health services and he has managed a number of teams delivering mental health care for adults.
Teaching interests
David has an interest in mental health law and also teaches values and ethics to undergraduate social work students. He is actively involved in supporting practice education and works to promote learning opportunities for students in a range of settings.
Research interests
David has an interest in improving practice in relation to the assessment of people experiencing suicidal thoughts and feelings. He is currently researching how professionals can be supported in this area of practice.
