How does it work?
Each subject is made up of modules, some lasting a whole academic year and other modules lasting half a year. Therefore, you get the right balance of core knowledge and skills, and scope to follow your interests. In Year 1, you study your two subjects in equal weighting. In year 2, you can opt to:
- Continue studying your subjects in equal weighting - a Joint Honours degree
- Specialise more in one subject and take the other as a minor - a Major/Minor Honours Degree
- Focus entirely on one subject - Single Honours degree, provided the subject is offered as a Single Honours Degree.
Your academic tutor will help you plan your studies, review your progress and choose your modules.

In Year 1, you study 60 credits in each subject. Core modules provide you with the essential foundations of knowledge and skills for undergraduate level study in the subject. Some subjects permit you to choose from a list of options.
Opt at the end of Year 1 to a Major/Minor Honours Degree:

Students opting to take more modules from one subject, take two 30 credit year-long modules from their main subject and then make up their programme from a choice of specialist option modules. In the second or Minor subject, there is usually again some choice of 30 credit and 15 credit modules. In the final year, you take an independent study or project module in your Major subject.
