Kiera Lewis
Kiera is working as a Social Prescribing Link Worker for Onside Independent Advocacy.
“I love my job and having the opportunity to empower people to improve their health and wellbeing,” she said. “I’m also completing further training part time, to qualify as a counsellor. My goals for the future are to gain my counselling qualification and work within the therapeutic sector for a while, gaining valuable experience in a therapeutic role. One day, I hope the opportunity arises for me to complete a Clinical or Counselling Psychology doctorate. I’m also currently working with my dissertation supervisor in the hopes of getting my research project published, so that is another big aspiration at the moment.”
Kiera achieved First Class Honours in her degree. “I am so thankful and grateful to achieve a First Class Honours degree," she said. "It feels so surreal, something I never expected to achieve, so I am so immensely proud of myself. I also feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to have such an amazing education, there are people around the world that would give anything to have the privilege and opportunities I have had, and I don’t take that for granted for a single second.”
Kiera said she chose to study at the University of Worcester because of the structure of the course and the opportunity to choose a specific pathway in Psychology.
She said studying in the pandemic was challenging but felt well supported.
“The pandemic felt like a bit of a whirlwind,” she said. “All of a sudden everything I knew university to be was essentially flipped on its head. But my lecturers were absolutely amazing at supporting me through these especially challenging times. I don’t think I would’ve achieved a First Class Honours degree without the support of my supervisor, Dr Laura Simmons. She was honestly like a lighthouse in the dark, and I cannot express in words how much I appreciate her guidance and kindness. I also felt so appreciative of the fact that I chose to study in my hometown, as I was surrounded by my amazingly supportive partner, friends and family, which made navigating the pandemic so much easier.”
