Two students from the University of Worcester have taken the top two prizes in a national competition for Early Years.
Mother-of-two, Zoe Corfield, who manages an early years setting in Pinvin, was awarded first prize in the Sector Endorsed Foundation Degree in Early Years (SEFDEY) Student Assignment Competition.
Meanwhile, Alice Flower took second place in the competition.
Zoe, who was the runner up last year, said she was thrilled to this year take the top spot, which was for her end of year assessment while studying for a Foundation Degree in Early Years at the University of Worcester.
“It feels fantastic to have won the top prize and have my work recognised in this way,” said Zoe, who is now studying to top-up her qualification to a BA (Hons) in Integrated Working with Children and Families. “It’s a big confidence boost.
“I had been managing the nursery for quite a while when decided I wanted to do a degree to allow me to widen my skills. The University has been amazing, giving me lots of support while I study and work, and also look after a family.”
Janet Harvell, Senior Lecturer in Children & Families at the University, said: “The Department is delighted at Zoe and Alice’s success. The flexible FdA requires commitment from the students who study alongside work and placement, and to produce work of such a high standard requires organisation, enthusiasm and a passion for working with children and their families.”
