Financial Expert Joins University of Worcester as Independent Governor

A former senior banker has been appointed as an independent governor at the University of Worcester.

Sally Morgan retired from a successful 37-year career in the financial services industry at the end of 2021. Initially trained in Corporate Lending at Lloyds Bank she then went on to hold many senior executive and management roles, including at Coventry Building Society and Nationwide, two private equity companies, and for the last five and a half years for the Tipton & Coseley Building Society as Operations Director, where she led significant transformation and digital strategy and served on the Board of Directors.

Sally, who has previously been a Charity Trustee for the Arab Horse Society, said she was delighted to now be joining the University’s Board of Governors.

“Following a successful career in Financial services I wanted to use my skill set with other organisations, preferably within my local community,” she said. “Education has always been important to me; I am a firm supporter of the government desire to introduce a Lifelong Learning Entitlement – it's important to enable people to have access to education – whether purely academic or more vocational.”

Sally said she was impressed with the University’s approach to equality, diversity and inclusion, through projects such as The Hive and the University of Worcester Arena, along with its impact on the urban regeneration of Worcester and community engagement.

“Whilst researching this opportunity it was clear to me that there is considerable passion and energy to continue to inspire and drive future progress including: development of the Severn Campus and the International Inclusive Cricket Education Centre, expanding the course range, including a focus on underrepresented employment areas such as Nursing and Teaching, and being ahead of some of the wider challenges such as inclusion, student wellbeing, sustainability issues and climate change. So, a great opportunity to join an exciting forward-thinking organisation.”

Sally is one of three new independent Governors appointed at the University recently and takes up a place on the Finance and Development Committee.
