A second year Business Management student at the University of Worcester has won a national award recognising his volunteering contribution.
Jack Lambert was named Volunteer of the Year at the 2022 BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Awards. BUCS acts as the governing body for university sport in the UK and the BUCS Awards 2022, celebrate the incredible achievements, contributions, and effort of the entire higher education sport sector.
Through his voluntary work, Jack has made an outstanding contribution to the student community at Worcester. He was a constant presence at the annual Varsity competition between the University of Worcester and University of Gloucestershire, helping out at a range of events.
As a volunteer athletics official, Jack has also contributed to his chosen sport, volunteering as a referee and judge at athletics competitions across the country, including at Diamond League meetings and the British Indoor Athletics Championships.
Jack’s commitment to volunteering and fundraising was spurred on in May 2021, when his father unexpectedly passed away from a cardiac arrest. Since then, Jack has worked tirelessly to raise awareness and during his time at university he has raised over £5,000 for the British Heart Foundation and Beat the Clock, through a 24-hour continuous CPR event and a skydive.
Speaking after the awards ceremony, Jack said “It means so much to me to have won this award. This year has been both challenging and rewarding, and I want to say thank you to my family, friends, and the Students’ Union for all their support. I’ve really enjoyed the experiences I’ve had volunteering and I’m looking forward to getting involved in more volunteering in the future.”
This summer Jack will be volunteering as a technical official at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, before continuing his studies at the University in September.
