The Worcester Wolves have added to their coaching and support team for the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s Premier League.
Head Coach Simon Fisher has recruited an Assistant Coach and a Team Manager to support him and the players for this very important inaugural season of the competition.
Adam McMullen, a former University of Worcester student, has been appointed as Assistant Coach and joins the club with immediate effect. Faye Stanton, who is a current student at the University, has been appointed as the new Team Manager and also starts her role with immediate effect.
Following in the footsteps of his father, who played in the National League, Adam played basketball himself and then made the transition into coaching in 2015. He coached the Worcester Wolves Academy Wheelchair Basketball team from 2016-2018 and then moved to the capital where he coached London Titans. Adam was also a coach in the England Regional Academy from 2018-2019. In 2019, Adam was awarded the British Wheelchair Basketball Development Coach of The Year award.
On his appointment as Assistant Coach, Adam said: “Having not only attended the University of Worcester, but also having coached the University’s Wheelchair Basketball Team in the past, when the opportunity arose to coach alongside Simon Fisher, I knew it would be the perfect fit. I am so excited to see what the future holds for the first professional women’s league in the world, and with Worcester being one of these teams I am sure we will see a great amount of success.”
Faye, who is currently studying an Integrated Masters in Touring Theatre, is also the Chair of the University’s BUCS Wheelchair Basketball programme.
Faye said she was very excited with the opportunity to learn and develop with the Wolves.
“I am so excited and thrilled to be joining the team at the Worcester Wolves,” she said. “I currently study at the University of Worcester and have taken on the challenge of reviving the University Wheelchair Basketball team as Chair for the first BUCs season for this sport. Worcester Wolves have such a strong team, both players and coaches and I can't wait to support the girls, learn from Simon and Adam and build the relationship between all Teams, Wolves and University.”
Head Coach Simon Fisher is very happy with his new off court recruits. “I am delighted to have Adam (Macca) and Faye to join myself to create a staff group to support the team this season,” he said.
“Macca brings a wealth of experience within the game, coaching within the National & Women’s Leagues as well in the performance pathway for BWB. His passion and thirst for knowledge will help inspire development in the players and myself.
“Faye joins us from leading the University programme. Her desire to improve, along with her energy and enthusiasm in my opinion provides a superb base for her role as the Team Manager. Both Macca and Faye have been students, which is a testament to the investment by the University over the years in their students and programmes. I look forward to working with them both, as we together look to develop a programme over the coming season and future years”
The League is first of its kind for women’s wheelchair basketball in the world, and the very first professional para-sport league in the UK.
The University of Worcester will be one of four High-Performance Partnerships, which also include Cardiff Metropolitan University, Loughborough University and the University of East London, that will each be home to a women’s premier league team.
The club will be making further announcements over the coming weeks. Keep up to date with all things Worcester Wolves across social media channels and the website. For more information about the new Women’s Premier League, visit www.britishwheelchairbasketball.co.uk/womens-premier-league/
