Planners have given the go ahead for a new aerial tower at the University of Worcester’s Lakeside Campus.
The 10-metre-high tower, which will incorporate a 100m zip wire, climbing wall and abseil wall and a ‘leap of faith’, will build on the University’s outdoor adventure offer and will be for use by students as well as guests to the Campus. It is hoped the new facility will be up and operational in May.
The Lakeside Campus, located at Holt Heath, 4 miles from Worcester city, hosts the University outdoor education facilities, including a water sports lake, woodlands and sports pitches. It is used by a number of students, including those studying on sports, education, science and environmental courses.
The Campus also hosts activity sessions for schools and community groups, along with birthday parties and corporate clients.
The 50-acre Lakeside Campus recently achieved four separate independent accreditations - from the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA), Adventuremark, Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Training Centre.
Rob Delahay, Outdoor Activity, Sport and Exercise Manager & University Safety Advisor at Lakeside Campus, said: “We are really proud of the excellent work going on at Lakeside and this new development will allow us to further expand the activities we are able to offer to both our students and the wider community.”
