A new walking, wheeling and cycling route linking Henwick Road to the riverside has opened at the University of Worcester.

The new route, which was formerly opened by the Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Adrian Gregson, in a special ceremony, was created as part of the development of the University’s new Severn Campus, which is home to the University of Worcester Arena, as well as the new Elizabeth Garrett Anderson building for health and medical education.
The route, which is open to the public, runs from Henwick Road, close to the rail crossing, down through the Campus and on to Hylton Road.
The campus also includes 100 electric vehicle charging points, making it one of the largest electric vehicle charging parks in Europe. The spaces are also available to the public.
The University was awarded £3m from the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) towards the cost of refurbishing the former Worcester News building, which is now known as the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson building, as well as the wider infrastructure for the new campus. The investment came as part of the Government’s Getting Building Fund where Worcestershire was awarded £12m, which has been allocated locally via the LEP.
Gary Woodman, Chief Executive of the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “The Worcestershire LEP is pleased to be able to support the creation of a new active travel route for Worcester as part of the development of the University’s new health and medical education centre, invested in via the Government’s Getting Building Fund.
“This new route will allow the University’s campuses to be easier to access for all, ensuring that we can train the region’s next generation of health and medical professionals right here in Worcestershire.”
