Students Learn About Careers in the Civil Service
Thursday, 26 January 2023
The University of Worcester hosted its first Civil Service Careers Fair to help students find out about potential future careers.
The event, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, saw numerous stands, with representatives from a variety of departments providing information to students.
Forensic Psychology student, Sarah Hemdi, said: “Coming to an event like this you get to find out about what you are already interested in as well as stuff you didn’t know was there. It’s been really helpful, everyone’s really passionate about giving you the information and letting you have things to take away. It’s given me ideas of things I can look into.”
Stands included: HM Prison and Probation, the Ministry of Defence, the National Health Service, the Department for Health and Social Care, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, the Office of the Public Guardian, the Ministry of Justice and HM Courts and Tribunals.
The event, held at the University of Worcester Arena, was aimed at helping students to learn more about the Civil Service, how key departments keep the country running smoothly and to highlight graduate recruitment opportunities available. Students from across a range of subjects attended, including Business, Psychology, Geography, History and Computing.
Andrea Rimmington, running a stand for the Office of the Public Guardian, said: “I’ve found it really useful because it’s opening up opportunities for the students to think about our organisation - not necessarily to apply now, but in future. It’s seeing …what it might be like to work for us or the Civil Service.”
The University of Worcester’s Pro Vice Chancellor (Students), Dr Tim Jones, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many of our students here engaged and so many Civil Service organisations represented. This is a great opportunity for our students and our country as a whole – highly motivated and well qualified graduates working in the Civil Service make a significant contribution to our society.”
