A former primary school teacher turned teacher educator has been shortlisted for a national award recognising her impact on the school sector.
Ann Jordan is shortlisted in the Purpose Coalition's Breaking Down Barriers Awards 2025.
Ann Jordan, who is now Provost at the University of Worcester, is shortlisted in the Purpose Coalition’s Breaking Down Barriers Awards 2025 in the category of ‘Successful School Years’.
Originally an outstanding primary school teacher and school leader, and then an educator of teachers, Ann’s entire career has been devoted to ensuring that children, particularly those from socially deprived backgrounds, enjoy a first-class education. Her passion is that all children should achieve and benefit from high educational standards.
At the University of Worcester, Ann has served as the Primary Partnership Manager, training teachers on all undergraduate and postgraduate courses, Deputy Head and Head of the Institute of Education and now University Provost.
Amongst her greatest strengths is her ability to teach children of all abilities to learn effectively and reach their potential and to teach trainee teachers how to become excellent practitioners that will make a real difference for children.

Ofsted at its most recent inspection commented that at the University of Worcester: “Leaders pay serious attention to transforming trainees into passionate teachers who are determined to raise the aspirations of the pupils, students and learners they teach.”

The Breaking Down Barriers Awards honour individuals and organisations that have made remarkable contributions to breaking down barriers and boosting social mobility across the UK.
The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, March 24 2025, at the House of Commons.
