Now, some of the lead consultants behind the BBC soap's portrayal of bipolar disorder, and in particular, postpartum psychosis, are to share their expertise at one of the world's leading literary festivals.

Professor Lisa Jones, Professor Ian Jones and Clare Dolman will explore the highs and lows of bipolar disorder at the Hay Festival on Thursday, June 2 at 10am.

Their talk is titled "Exploring the Poles: In Search of a Deeper Understanding of Bipolar Disorder.

Professor Lisa Jones is the lead researcher at the University of Worcester's Mood Disorders Research Group, which, in partnership with Professor Ian Jones at Cardiff University, forms the national Bipolar Disorder Research Network.

In conversation with Clare Dolman, of Bipolar UK, they will consider factors that can lead to both mania and depression, and examine recent and future advances in the treatment of this mental illness.

Professor Lisa Jones said: "Our ability to treat bipolar disorder is hampered by the limits of our understanding of its causes. This is an exciting opportunity to discuss our research with the Hay Festival audience. We are particularly grateful to Clare Dolman for agreeing to share her lived experience of postpartum psychosis."

The talk is part of a series of four talks at the Hay Festival, delivered by the University of Worcester as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations.

Other talks in the series include:

Professor Maggie Andrews on "The Acceptable Face of Feminism:100 Years of the Women's Institute" on Tuesday, May 31 at 10am.

Professor Jo Smith on "The Shape We're In: Building Good Mental and Emotional Health" on Tuesday, May 31 at 11.30am.

Professor David Green, Mick Donovan and Anne Hannaford will host a panel session on "Universities in the 21st Century: More and Better?" on Wednesday, June 1 at 1pm
