Limited Edition Painting Donated to University

A limited edition print of the Lords cricket ground and the centenary test match between England v Australia has been donated to the University of Worcester.

The print, signed by the artist, Alan Fearnley, and the whole England team of the day " Gooch, Boycott, Gower, Botham et al, has been donated by Clive Read.

"I am delighted that my late uncle's signed limited edition print of the Centenary Ashes test in 1977 has found such a worthwhile home at the University of Worcester," he said. "He was a lifelong Worcestershire County Cricket fan and a teacher and headmaster so it is fitting the print is here at such a vibrant and progressive university for all to enjoy."

Clive was aware of the University's strong interest in cricket with an established partnership with the Worcestershire County Cricket Club. The current captain, Daryl Mitchell, is a graduate of the University of Worcester. Significantly, the University also delivers the only BSc. Hons in Cricket Coaching and Management degree in the UK.

The picture now sits in the Sports Centre on the St John's Campus. Head of the University's Institute of Sport and Exercise Science, Mick Donovan, said: "We are thrilled to receive such an historic painting and it now has pride of place within the University. It is very fitting that this comes to us at a time of exciting developments for sport and cricket at the University."
