This new collaboration will allow Coleg Gwent, in south Wales, to offer a number of new university courses in the care sector at its Crosskeys campus, starting with a new foundation degree in Mental Health.

A foundation degree is a university level qualification that combines academic study with workplace learning. It is a standalone qualification in itself, often with lower entry requirements than an honours degree and can be studied at a local college, making it more accessible to those wanting to further their education. Those wanting to continue to an honours degree can go on to complete an additional year at university.

The University of Worcester runs courses in partnership with a number of institutions locally, nationally and internationally.

Coleg Gwent now offers foundation degrees in a variety of subjects across all of its campuses thanks to partnerships with the University of Worcester, the University of South Wales and Aberystwyth University.

The official agreement was signed by representatives of Coleg Gwent and the University of Worcester and the plaque was unveiled by Coleg Gwent Principal Guy Lacey and the University of Worcester's Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor Educational Partnerships, Louise Jones.

Ms Jones said: "Our new partnership with Coleg Gwent means that new high quality higher education courses will be provided allowing students to make the most of their talents and skills in their local area.

"We look forward to the two institutions working together to identify further courses that would benefit students, local employers and the community for the future."

Mr Lacey said: "We are delighted to announce our latest partnership with the University of Worcester. We offer a whole range of university level courses across a variety of sectors at our five local campuses which demonstrates our commitment to continually upskill learners in the communities we serve."
