The Institute of Education at the University of Worcester and Severn Arts brought together pupils, aged seven to 11, from schools around Worcestershire for the annual event, which saw them singing and signing at the University of Worcester Arena.

The Big Sing, in its fourth year, had a historical theme and many of the children had dressed from a period in history, with groups of Vikings, Victorians and evacuees among the performers

The performance featured historic-themed songs, including Viking Warrior, Chop and Change, Last Kiss Goodbye and Power in Me, which are all taken from "Past and Present" by Rebecca Lawrence (2010 Lawrence Music Ltd).

Pupils had rehearsed the songs in advance and have been learning sign language in order to sing and sign at the same time. On the day pupils either performed in a morning or afternoon session led by educational vocal animateur, Ula Weber.

Julie Sutton, Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Worcester, who was involved in organising the event, said: "It was a fantastic day. The children really got into the spirit and it was wonderful to hear them all singing together."
