Two champion sports teams from the University of Worcester were invited to tea with the City's Mayor in recognition of their achievements.
The University's wheelchair basketball team and 1st netball team visited the Mayor's parlour at Worcester's Guildhall and spent time chatting with the Mayor and Mayoress, as well as taking a tour of the historic venue.
The University's wheelchair basketball team was crowned winners of the British Universities Wheelchair Basketball Championships in March, while the netball team won the national Trophy Final in April, before going on to secure promotion to the premier division of BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sports).
Sheli Morgan, Director of Netball at the University and coach of the 1st team, said: "It was a real pleasure for the girls to be invited to have tea with the Mayor and to be formally recognised for their massive achievements this season.
"The team has really grown in strength, as have all of our teams and we are immensely proud of all the girls involved in the netball programme at the University."
The Mayor expressed his delight in their success and in having the Teams visit the Guildhall. He also commented on the development of the University of Worcester Arena and the foresight that had gone into the design delivering a "first class national venue for sport", in particular fully inclusive sporting events such as last year's European Wheelchair Basketball Championships. He said it was a great asset to Worcester's sporting scene.
