University Thanked for Special Donation

Members of the Ukrainian Community in Worcestershire have visited the University of Worcester to personally thank staff for a recent donation.

Last year the University donated around 300 sets of bed linen from its accommodation to the group, who arranged for it to be taken to hospitals in war-affected regions of Ukraine.
Oksana Viktorova and Natalia Kostenko addressed staff and thanked them for their donation, expressing gratitude on behalf of the people working in the hospitals which had received the linen.
Oksana said: “The support of an organisation like the University gives us hope and confidence in tomorrow and a happy future for Ukraine.”
She also presented the University and each member of the Cleaning Services team with a personal certificate of thanks, recognising their contributions.
Natalia said: “I want to give the words of gratitude and love from the boys and girls who protect our country, these are simple people who lived their lives before the war and now they’re heroes and heroines.”
She continued: “You gave not only linen, but also the warmth and sensitivity in your hearts. Thank you.”
Nic Mander, Director of Commercial and Hospitality Services at the University, said: “Once we discovered the extra stock on hand, it was clear that putting it to good use was essential and that this was the right decision.”
He continued: “I hate wasting items that can be upcycled or reused, so finding a meaningful purpose for them was vital and this was absolutely the correct choice.”
He added: “Meeting Oksana and Natalia really drove home the impact that even small actions can have on people in need. It highlighted the importance of considering others’ circumstances more often, appreciating that not everyone’s situation is the same as ours and when we have the chance to help, we should seize it wholeheartedly.”
