Worcester Business Graduate Enjoying Success at BBC

A graduate from the University of Worcester's Business School is moving through the ranks in the BBC.

Chris Layton, 24, from Inkberrow, studied Business Information Technology at Worcester, and has enjoyed a flying start to his career with the broadcasting corporation, securing three promotions in just over a year.

He started at the BBC in November 2015 as an HR Advisor (Systems) before moving on to a position as a Senior HR Advisor (Complex Reporting), and from there to the Design and Engineering department, as Human Capital Management Systems Specialist. He has now been promoted to Senior Systems Specialist.

"My BSc with the Worcester Business School played a big part in helping me launch my career," Chris said. "My degree was a sandwich course, and I spent a year working as an intern with Worcester Bosch within the HR Systems department. My sandwich year helped me hugely to understand what it was like to work as part of a big organisation, and gave me the chance to see how I would be able to apply my degree in the workplace following graduation."

Upon completion of his degree, Chris was offered a graduate position within Worcester Bosch's HR Systems department, where he worked for a year before securing his first role with the BBC.

"Worcester Bosch provided me with a fantastic platform to kick-start my career thanks to the opportunities which they gave me", he said, "But when I noticed the role with the BBC I knew it was something I couldn't pass up on, as it would allow me to challenge myself by applying everything I had learned thus far within such a recognisable and large organisation."
