As the University Provost, Ann works with the Vice Chancellor to provide strategic leadership within the University, leading on the University’s academic planning and related resourcing, administration, and organisation. Ann was appointed to the newly created role of Deputy Provost in February 2021, having successfully led the School of Education in her role as Head of School at the University of Worcester since 2014.
A qualified teacher by profession Ann has been a member of the Chartered College of Teachers and also held senior leadership roles in schools prior to joining the University in 1995. Ann has a particular interest in teacher education and the wider aspects of leadership and management in education more broadly, with contributions to a number of academic papers and presentations at national and international conferences on these areas and the wider school curriculum.
In her previous position as Deputy Provost, Ann supported the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost to ensure excellence across the University’s academic and academic-related areas. Ann currently undertakes strategic leadership in several key emerging academic areas as agreed by the Vice Chancellor.
As Provost, among other responsibilities at the University of Worcester, Ann is Chair of the University’s Safeguarding Committee and is Vice Chair of Academic Board. Ann is a member of the University Executive Board and the University Leadership Group, where she provides insight on a range of aspects to the Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive and other senior colleagues. Ann also attends meetings of the Board of Governors and is a member of the University Academic Regulations and Governance Committee.
Ann is Co-Chair of the Academic Representation Oversight Group, which is responsible for the monitoring and ongoing development of the Academic Representation System, working closely with the President and Vice President (Education) of Worcester Students’ Union.
Ann provides line management to the Academic Registrar, Director for Quality and Educational Development, Director of Library and Professional Administrative Services and the Director of Apprentices and Employer Engagement.
Ann has held a number of External Examiner roles at various UK universities, most recently as Chief External Examiner. She has represented the University on the Universities’ Council for the Education of Teachers Management Forum and until 2020 was a member of the West Midlands Deans Group for Teacher Education.
