Denisse is the Course Lead for BSc (Hons) Child and Adolescent Mental Health Top-up. She blends her experience in practice with theory to enhance students CAMH knowledge and expertise. Denisse is a dual qualified Registered General Nurse (Adults and Children), Social worker (child protection) and a Systemic Practitioner at Intermediate level.
Prior to joining the University of Worcester in 2014, she was an NHS Family nurse working with young parents and prior to that within NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services as a CAMHS Nurse. She maintains her clinical practice under an honorary contract with NHS Specialist Community CAMHS, working within a Family Work Clinic.

Teaching and Research
Teaching
My teaching interests are mainly within child and adolescent mental health, these being:
Therapeutic communication and counselling, work based learning, mental health promotion, therapeutic ways of working with children, young people and families. I also teach into other health/social care related courses, for example: applied human biology and managing health conditions, pre-registration nursing and paramedic science (CAMH related) and legislation, children/young people policy and best practice.
Research
My research interests lie in:
- Young parents
- Infant mental health
- Cognitive behavioural therapy
- Systemic family work
Membership of Professional Bodies
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and my Nursing and Midwifery Council registration for adult and child nursing is current and effective as is my registration with the Association for Family Therapy And Systemic Practice.
