Research

Creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge and the use of this stock of knowledge to devise new applications.

Contract Research

A professional service provided for an external client for which payment is made that draws on the knowledge, expertise, experience or skills of University staff and leads to the creation of new knowledge or understanding.

Consultancy

A professional service provided for an external client for which payment is made that draws on the knowledge, expertise, experience or skills of University staff and that involves the application of existing knowledge rather than the creation of new knowledge or understanding.

CPD

The provision of short and long training programmes for learners already in work who are undertaking the course for purposes of professional development, upskilling or workforce development.

Facilities and Equipment Related Services

The provision of the University’s specialist facilities and equipment to an external party (this excludes conference or general sports facilities).

Regeneration and Development

The provision of services funded by ERDF income, ESF income, UK regeneration and development funds that enhance or increase knowledge exchange between the University and business and community partners.

Social, Community and Cultural Engagement

The provision of public lectures, museum education, performances, exhibitions and other arts-based activities.
