Hollie Fawke
Hollie achieved First Class Honours in her degree in Biomedical Science.
“I feel absolutely over the moon to have achieved a First Class Honours and to see my hard work has really paid off,” said the 21-year-old.
Hollie is now continuing her training with the Haematology and Transfusion Pathology department at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where she is completing her Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Registration Portfolio.
The former Tewkesbury Comprehensive School student said she chose to study at Worcester because of her positive experience at Open Days and the smaller class sizes. “When attending Open Days, I found all the staff to be very friendly and more than happy to help with any queries I had,” she added. “I was drawn in by the smaller classes, as at the time, I struggled with Science and Maths and therefore liked the idea that if I was struggling, somebody would be happy to point me in the right direction.”
Hollie said completing her studies during the pandemic was unfortunate as she didn’t get to experience the last few months face-to-face teaching and lab sessions, but she praised the University for doing the best it could under such unprecedented circumstances.
She added: “I am thankful that I took the plunge and applied for the Biomedical Science course because it meant I learnt so much, met some great people and gained really useful skills. Without completing my degree, I would not be able to follow the career path I have today and would have missed out on some of the best opportunities of my life.”
