VIHANGA PATHIRAGE scholarship

Vihanga Ravinatha Pathirage studied Biochemistry and received a £1,000 Academic Scholarship Award.

Vihanga said: “I am deeply flattered that the University of Worcester has recognised my efforts by awarding me a scholarship. It motivates me to continue performing in this way, and with my plan to do a Masters or PhD in the future, this money will help with that.”

Vihanga didn’t meet the requirements to begin his degree straight away, so he did a foundation course.

“It was the perfect option for me to begin with,” said Vihanga. “The modules offered for the whole course are diverse and provide a wide background of the whole subject. The degree is further accredited by the Royal Society of Biology which is valuable when going on to specialise in other areas because it’s recognised in the UK and internationally as well.”

Vihanga is being recognised for his achievements, and it’s clear to see that he is taking full advantage of everything the University of Worcester has to offer.

“The University has been helpful, especially through the Personal Academic Tutors system,” he said. “Most of the queries I’ve had regarding my course have been cleared by having a simple talk with my tutor and the helpdesk in Firstpoint has been helpful in providing information about things other than the course.”

He said: “The lecturers do a great job in delivering and grabbing the attention of the crowd and I have personally found the lecture slides and reading materials to be especially good.”
