Zack Leo

Zack Leo scholarship

Zack is studying for an LLB Law degree and has just won the Toby Hooper KC Prize for Best Overall Performance in Criminal Law (First Year).

“I was really shocked when I found out I’d won the award but filled with pride and happiness as I had worked so hard that year,” he said. “I plan on using the money to help me throughout my time at university.”

University wasn’t part of 20-year-old Zack’s original life plan. But after just one year of study, he’s now planning to complete a Master’s degree and hopes to then study for a PhD.

“I’m really enjoying university,” he said. “I’ve found a real passion in Law and I’m learning a lot and I just want to continue that journey at the moment.”

Zack chose to study at Worcester after taking a year out following his A-levels, where he studied Law, Psychology and Maths.

“While I was at college, I really enjoyed Law and my parents encouraged me to think about university, which I hadn’t originally planned to do,” he said. “After two years of studying for my A-levels during Covid lockdowns, I just needed a break. So I took a year out.”

He added: “I had seen that the University of Worcester was one of the top for Law and rugby and so I decided to apply. I went to an Open Day and really liked it. And it’s been great so far. I’ve made some great friends, as well as meeting my girlfriend and I really like the city.”

A number of prizes and Academic Scholarship Awards are awarded to students at the University of Worcester each year, generously supported by local philanthropists and businesses, recognising student achievements.

University of Worcester Provost, Ann Jordan, said: “Congratulations to all our students who earned an Academic Scholarship or prize this year. These students achieved highly in their studies and it is wonderful to be able to recognise their dedication and commitment during the last academic year. Hopefully this award will inspire them to further academic success in the future.

“The scholarships and prizes are supported by generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful graduates of the University, and we are very grateful to all our benefactors, whose generosity makes such a difference to our students.”
